PROJECTS WE’RE PROUD TO SUPPORT IN 2025
📚 Picaflor House, Peru
Located 25 km outside of Cusco, Picaflor runs after‑school programmes covering academics, extracurriculars, and homework, and provides a subsidised healthy lunch. The LATA Foundation supports their literacy initiative with a mobile library – equipped with books, teachers, and learning resources, that visits three rural villages weekly, serving around 100 children aged 5–14. Check out the video on the mobile library!
🎓 El Rio Foundation, Colombia
El Rio, based in Buritaca on Colombia’s north coast, offers educational support, community sports, reforestation, and waste‑management projects. The LATA Foundation has helped fund education for many local children, supporting weekly tutoring in English, Spanish, and maths, plus homework help, and supports adult English classes attended by 16 locals – with the Foundation supplying teaching materials.
🌱 Pablo Arturo Wildlife Refuge, Panama
In partnership with Pro-Eco Azuero, we’re training young people (aged 18-30) to become certified eco‑tour guides at the hidden biodiversity haven that is the Pablo Arturo Barrios Wildlife Refuge. Workshops cover biodiversity, climate change, and local conservation, each led by experts in their field. Since LATA Foundation’s support, Panama’s Minister of Environment, Juan Carlos Navarro, has officially endorsed the certification, boosting sustainable development through education and community engagement.
🐾Community Baboon Sanctuary, Belize
The Community Baboon Sanctuary in Belize, is a community‑led conservation area protecting the endangered black howler monkey. Since 1998, the CBS Women’s Conservation Group, composed of elected female leaders from eight villages, has combined biodiversity protection with sustainable tourism. With the support of the LATA Foundation, they will run three practical workshops next month to train women and youth in tourism and hospitality skills for community-based visitor experiences.
We are on the look out for a fifth project to add to our portfolio of projects! If you have any ideas or know of a project that is grassroots, has a tangible link to tourism and is located in an area where there is tourism or a drive to develop tourism – we would love to hear from you!
